Edward Chambre Hardman was a well-known Liverpool photographer. The Hardman Photographic Studio on Rodney Street is a lovely Georgian terraced building where Hardman lived and worked. The Studio has been restored by the National Trust to present a time-capsule of mid-20th-century life in Liverpool. An exhibition area displays some of Hardman's best photographs, and further displays reveal the secret of Hardman's unique photographic technique for landscape and portrait photography. Vintage films also show Hardman talking about his work. Hardman's subject matter was the people of post-war Liverpool and their environment. Visitors can view the darkroom where Hardman processed all his own work, the studio, and the living area where Hardman and his wife Margaret lived from 1947 until 1988. Over more than 40 years Hardman amassed a huge photographic archive containing hundreds of thousands of prints and negatives.
